About This Release
The album that started it all. Gentle Giant's 1970 self-titled debut album sees a U.S. pressing on CD for the first time in nearly 40 years with remixed and remastered audio. Produced by Tony Visconti and recorded in the summer of 1970, the debut announced a band with no interest in the ordinary. Across seven tracks the group moved between hard rock, chamber music, jazz and medieval counterpoint, with the five members trading off dozens of instruments - guitars, bass, violin, cello, organ, vibraphone, recorder, saxophone, trumpet and more. The record introduced the pieces that would define the band's live sets for a decade, among them "Giant," "Funny Ways" and "Nothing At All," alongside "Alucard" - the track that later gave the band's own label it's name. This edition presents the album in a new stereo mix drawn from the original multitrack tapes, housed in a digipak.
