Salzers

This reissue of Ernie Watts' "Reaching Up", originally released in 1994, brings back to market a project that has Watts surrounded by a stellar group of musicians; Arturo Sandoval, Mulgrew Miller, Jack DeJohnette and Charles Fambrough. Recorded in New York City, this straight ahead session includes the Coltrane piece "Mr. Syms" and the classic "I Hear a Rhapsody" along with several Watts originals including the title track. "Reaching Up" was made during Watts' period with the Japanese label JVC, reflecting his lifelong commitment to acoustic jazz. His next choice after leaving JVC was to start his own label, Flying Dolphin Records, which has been his musical home for over nine years.
